And she saw how the sky opened up stands at the intersection of the personal and the political. Rooted in the artist’s lived experience of growing up in Estonia - a country marked by a history of occupation and the ongoing threat of its return - the work reflects on how both past and present political power structures shape the lives of individuals.

Working with themes of female grief, resistance, care, and intergenerational trauma, the work seeks moments of salvation and hope through togetherness amid hardships, while critically acknowledging the inherent complexities of the need for belonging.

Central to the work is the use of costume and sculptural costume as an autonomous and critical medium, with a strong emphasis on both material and performative qualities. In this context, costume operates as an embodied practice through which complex emotional and historical narratives are articulated with empathetic absurdity and melancholic humour.

Lisette Sivard is an artist and designer who studied fashion at the Estonian Academy of Arts and costume design at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp. In her practice, she explores what it means to be a small person in a big world, addressing humane and existential concerns connected to socio-political issues, with a focus on the individual as a fragile and vulnerable body. Sivard has received the Mathilde Horlait-Dapsens Prize, JAT Prize, Eduard Wiiralt Stipend, and the Young Applied Artist Award.

Ik ben Pitu en met een optimistische zweep sier ik het leven in kleur. Ik juich de menselijkheid toe: de glorie en de mislukkingen, het huilen, het lachen en de liefde.

In mijn werk vier ik verbondenheid, een uitnodiging om je dierbaren te koesteren. Ik zoek naar ankermomenten in een wereld die vaak te snel draait.

Mijn praktijk is een kleurrijke boot die vaart tussen verschillende media: textiel, alter ego’s, kostuums, video, fotografie, tekst, installatie en performance.

In onze gedeelde sterfelijkheid ontdek ik de meest menselijke kracht: de mogelijkheid om lief te hebben, te verbinden en te vieren dat we bestaan.

Max's artistieke praktijk is voornamelijk geworteld in persoonlijk onderzoek – van identiteit, relaties en de vaak turbulente manier hoe de mens de wereld ervaart. Het oeuvre wordt gevormd door een voortdurende zoektocht naar persoonlijke identiteit, met name in relatie tot gender, verbondenheid en de steeds veranderende dynamiek tussen verschillende delen van zichzelf en anderen – vrienden, familie, ook vreemden. Vragen over zelfexpressie, geheugen, empathie en transformatie worden aangekaard doormiddel van een steeds verder ontwikkelende visuele vocabulaire.

Schilderen wordt een ruimte om te zoeken naar antwoorden die niet altijd te vinden zijn.

Ik bevraag de vanzelfsprekendheid van de badkamer als intieme ruimte via keramische sculpturen. Herkenbare vormen, kleur en materiaal verwijzen naar hun alledaagse oorsprong, maar blijven een suggestie. Zo ontstaat een spanning tussen herkenning en vervreemding: herkenning omdat badkamers diep verweven zijn met onze lichamen en dagelijkse routines, vervreemding omdat de objecten hun functie verliezen en geen logica hebben. Ik ben op zoek naar een eigen identiteit die deze objecten in zich dragen.

I am Marthe Wauters, a jewellery designer based in Antwerp. With my background in interior and jewellery design the basis of my practice moves between space, object and wearability.

In my work, I explore how jewellery carries meaning beyond the aesthetic. It acts as an intimate carrier of memories, stories and emotions, forming a bridge between body, identity and environment. Themes such as comfort, security and connection often recur in my work. I consider jewellery to be miniature interiors: wearable spaces that not only decorate, but also offer protection, remind us and connect us.

Experimentation and intuition are central. Through material research, I discover new qualities that guide my process. My work explores how personal and emotional themes become tangible, and how meaning grows in the interaction between object and wearer.
