"Many of her recollections are rooted in the south-west deserts of the United States — vast terrains she returns to through satellite imagery, aerial photographs, and family archives."
Karlijn de Lange (Leiden, 1998) is a visual artist whose practice explores how memory interacts with a bird’s-eye view of the landscapes where those memories were formed. Working across drawing, oil painting, and ceramics, she revisits personal geographies. She investigates the fleeting nature of recollection by approaching it as fluid and even fictional. This fictional approach allows her to treat memories not as fixed but as something changeable, gaining new meaning through the act of making. Many of her recollections are rooted in the south-west deserts of the United States — vast terrains she returns to through satellite imagery, aerial photographs, and family archives.
