Lieke Verreussel

"Listening and being present is her method. She stays close to what feels unresolved, tracing the edges between comfort and discomfort, between flow and stagnation."

Lieke Verreussel (1987) is an artist and social worker based in Antwerp. She works in the in-between: between social work and the visual arts, between matter and meaning, between the individual and the system. Her practice is rooted in care for people, relationships, environments, and for what remains unspoken. She is drawn to what hesitates rather than flows, to places where something feels missing, misaligned, or quietly tense. She calls this friction. It appears where systems touch people, where expectation meets experience, where silence leans toward sound.

Listening and being present is her method. She stays close to what feels unresolved, tracing the edges between comfort and discomfort, between flow and stagnation. Through sculpture, public-space interventions, and video, she responds to these thresholds with attentiveness.

Whether in a community context or in the studio, she aims to create spaces where dialogue can unfold, sometimes voiced, sometimes embodied, sometimes felt more than spoken.
